Tour Details

Take an extraordinary Travelian Tour for bird watching and visiting remarkable Mayan ruins in the highland pine forests and untouched jungles of Chiapas with us and our expert local guides!

Spend the first night in San Cristobal de las Casas, then head down to Montebello Lakes National Park, an area consisting of 59 lakes of varied hues in a pine forest. The lakes are famous for striking colors that differ due to their different mineral contents, ranging from emerald and turquoise to dark green, and even purple and reddish black. Lago Tziscao is the largest of the lakes, and offers outstanding bird watching and hiking. We’ll stay the night at an eco lodge on the shores of this beautiful lake.

The following morning we’ll drive up the mountain to a waterfall for bird watching and lunch at an eco lodge. Our next stop will be a remarkable eco lodge situated on the banks of the Lacantun River where we will spend the night. Be prepared to add new birds to your “Life List” at this beautiful location! You will have a chance to see and hear howler monkeys in the nearby trees and agoutis running about freely in the brush as well. The next day we’ll take an early boat ride along the river into the untouched Lacandon Jungle with our expert bird guides.

Afterward, we’ll drive to an eco lodge in the town of Frontera Corozal on the banks of the Usumacinta River (one of the largest rivers in Central America), marking the border between Mexico and Guatemala. The following morning, we’ll leave early on a boat ride with our guides to the remarkable Mayan site of Yaxchilan! This stunning site is brimming with lush jungle and plenty of wildlife. Our guides will inform you about this archeological site while identifying a large variety of tropical birds residing in and visiting this area. Our boat ride will offer us plenty of birding as well. After we return to our lodge, we’ll pack up and have lunch. Our guides will take us on a drive through jungle roads to a different eco lodge near the archeological site of Bonampak for the night. The next morning after an early breakfast we’ll check out of our lodge and head to the site of Bonampak with its finely preserved Mayan murals. We’ll spend time learning about this site from our expert guides.

Next we’ll drive to our hotel in Palenque! You’ll be in for a treat at this elegant comfortable hotel. We’ll have time to relax, swim, or bird watch at this gorgeous place surrounded by lush jungle. A presentation about the exquisite and picturesque Palenque Archeological site will be shared with our group by our expert guide. A private tour of the site will be led by our guide!
