Isla Holbox is a small (26 miles long) island north of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, in Quintana Roo State. It's part of the Yum Balam Nature Reserve, and separated from the mainland by the Yalahau Lagoon, which is home to flamingos, pelicans and other rich birdlife. The island is between the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico, with waters rich in marine life.

Getting to Isla Holbox is an adventure in itself! The island is accessed by ferry from the mainland town of Chiquila, and has virtually no cars; transport by most residents and tourists is by electric golf carts and mopeds. Other vehicles are not allowed in order to protect the environment and to prevent the streets from getting sand covered.

This relaxing paradise offers simple pleasures, such as of swinging in a hammock and enjoying natural beauty. The island shores are wide beaches that offer plenty of room for beach walkers and swimmers.

Other relaxing choices are wandering through the town, beach combing, swimming in beautiful waters, or enjoying good food at one of the many beach restaurants. It’s a place to unwind and escape crowded tourist areas.

Take a boat to “Isla Pájaros” (Bird Island), a small island covered by both mangroves and cacti, located on the Yalahau lagoon, where there is a large diversity of birds. As some of them are endangered species, two observation points and walkways are provided to minimize the direct contact with the birds. Flamingos, cormorants, herons, frigate birds, pelicans, wild ducks and gulls are among the species that can be observed in their natural environment. If you are a bird watcher, bring your binoculars!

Sunsets are a part of the daily ritual. Relax under a palapa on the beach. Enjoy each evening with a refreshing drink and a delicious seafood meal, in the company of traveling friends and our warm and knowledgeable guides. ITINERARY


DAY 1 – JANUARY 24, TUESDAY

TRAVEL DAY - NIGHT IN MERIDA

Fly to Merida. A van will pick us up at the airport and take us to our hotel where we'll enjoy lunch* upon arrival. After checking into our hotel, we'll have free time to explore downtown Merida on our own. We'll gather with our group in the lobby of our hotel at 4:30 pm for a brief presentation of the tour by our guides, before departing to enjoy dinner with Yucatan Splendor tour group*

If you are flying on your own into Merida, please meet our group at 4:30 pm on Tuesday 24th in the lobby of our hotel for a brief presentation of the tour by our guides.

DAY 2 – JANUARY 25, WEDNESDAY

EXPLORE IZAMAL, THE MAYAN YELLOW CITY - NIGHT IN HOLBOX

7:00 am Breakfast at hotel then check out and depart for Holbox. Visit Valladolid along the way and discover its beauty. Have lunch* and a local restaurant before continuing our journey. Once in the town of Chiquila, we'll take a 30 minute ferry ride to Holbox Island. That evening, meet in our hotel lobby and walk to dinner* at a nearby restaurant. Return to hotel.

DAY 3– JANUARY 26, THURSDAY

EXPLORE THE ISLAND ON GOLF CARTS AND RELAX

7:00 am Breakfast at our hotel. Leave for a guided tour of the Island, ride or drive in golf carts and stop along the way at different interesting spots. On the way back enjoy fresh sea food lunch* at a nice local restaurant. Have a free afternoon to enjoy Holbox. That evening meet in the lobby of our hotel and depart for a delicious dinner* at a nearby restaurant.

DAY 4 – JANUARY 27, FRIDAY

THE NATURAL BEAUTY OF HOLBOX

7:00 am Breakfast at our hotel. Leave for a boat tour to visit Holbox island's main natural attractions, Isla pajaros, Isla pasion, and Yalahau Cenote. At return have lunch* at a nearby restaurant. Have free time to enjoy the pool, the beach, or just relax. That evening well meet in the lobby of our hotel and depart for dinner* at a nearby restaurant.

DAY 5 – JANUARY 28, SATURDAY

FREE DAY TO ENJOY HOLBOX ON YOUR OWN OR OPTIONAL BOAT TOUR

Enjoy a free day to explore Holbox on your own, or take an optional boat tour (not included in tour's fee) for fishing and snorkeling in Cabo Catoche (includes ceviche lunch on board) 150 USD or equivalent per person – please reserve in advance-
6:30 pm That evening we'll meet in the lobby of our hotel and depart for our farewell dinner* at a local restaurant.

DAY 6 – JANUARY 29, SUNDAY

THE NATURA BEAUTY OF HOLBOX

TRAVEL DAY
7:30 am Breakfast at our hotel.
9:00 am We'll check out of our hotel and depart towards Cancun International airport.
1:00 pm Arrive at Cancun Airport – Check in and go through security and have lunch* (for those of you who wish to fly with our guides to Leon). Otherwise, if you wish to stay in Cancun we can arrange transportation for you to your next destination from the Cancun airport.

All lunch reservations will be made for the convenience of our day travels. Dinner reservations will be made for each evening and are optional. We will ask all of you if you wish to join us for dinner every afternoon to ensure that our reservations are correct and confirmed.

CANCELLATION POLICY

  If a traveler cancels a reservation 65 days or more before the departure date, a refund will be made of the amount paid in excess of the $250 USD non-refundable deposit.

If a traveler cancels a reservation less than 65 days before the departure date, no refund will be made of any payments received.

If you are able to find a traveler to fill your space, or Travelian Tours is able to fill the space from a waiting list, we'll refund 100% of any payments you have made.

If Travelian Tours does not have the minimum number of travelers necessary for this trip, the trip will have to be cancelled, and you will receive a full refund of any payments you have made.
